Privacy Policy

ScrapMetal Intel ("the app", "we") is published by Andromeda Kinship LLC. We believe privacy is a feature, not a burden. This policy describes what we do and do not collect, how we handle your data, and what rights you have.

Short version

• We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information about you.
• All your alerts, log entries, and settings live only on your device.
• We do not track you. We do not serve ads. We do not sell data. We never will.
• The app fetches anonymous metal price data from our public server. That server does not log your device identifier, IP address, or any personally identifiable information.
• Subscription payments are handled entirely by Apple. We receive only the anonymized purchase receipt required to verify your active subscription.

What we collect

Nothing personal. The app does not ask for your name, email address, phone number, location, contacts, photos, or any other personally identifiable information. You do not create an account to use the app.

What stays on your device

• Your transaction log entries (date, metal, weight, price, yard, notes)
• Your app settings (language, notification preferences, theme, currency)
• A local cache of the most recently fetched price data
• Your price alerts and their configuration

All of the above is stored in the iOS system's local storage and is included in your normal device backup. None of it is transmitted to us or any third party, with one exception: if you turn on price-alert notifications, your alert rules are sent to our server so it can notify you while the app is closed. See "Price-alert notifications" below. If you never enable notifications, nothing you enter in the app ever leaves your device.

Network requests

The app makes three kinds of network requests:

1. Price data fetches. The app downloads a public JSON file containing current spot prices and daily commentary. This file is served from our Cloudflare CDN and does not require authentication. We do not store request logs that could identify individual users.
2. Subscription validation. If you subscribe to a paid tier, the RevenueCat SDK communicates with Apple and RevenueCat's servers to verify your subscription status. This is handled by Apple's standard in-app purchase framework. See Apple's privacy policy and RevenueCat's privacy policy for details on how they handle purchase data.
3. Price-alert notifications (only if you enable them). To send a price alert while the app is closed, our server needs to know what to watch for and where to send it. When you turn notifications on we upload: an anonymous Apple push token for your device, your alert rules (metal, above/below, and your threshold price), and your language code so the notification text is in your language. That is all. No name, email, account, device identifier beyond the push token, or location. The push token is an anonymous, revocable handle issued by Apple — it is not linked to your identity and we do not use it for tracking, advertising or analytics.

AI-generated commentary

The app displays daily market commentary that is generated server-side by Anthropic's Claude API. This generation happens on our servers once per day — the app itself never sends anything to Anthropic. We pass only public price data (no user information) in the generation prompt. The resulting text is published to our public JSON file and fetched by the app along with the price data.

No tracking, no ads, no analytics

The app does not use the App Tracking Transparency framework because we do not track you. We do not include advertising SDKs. We do not include third-party analytics SDKs. We do not share data with data brokers.

Children

ScrapMetal Intel is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect any information from children.

Data retention and deletion

Your app data is stored locally on your device: you can delete all of it at any time via Settings → Reset all data inside the app, or by uninstalling the app.

If you enabled price-alert notifications, the push token and alert rules described above are also held on our server. Turning notifications off in Settings immediately deletes that record, and the app does so automatically. Deleting the app also invalidates the push token, and we prune tokens that Apple reports as no longer valid. Nothing else about you is stored on our servers, because there is no account.

Changes to this policy

If we materially change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above and note the change in a future app release. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
